When Truth Falls in the Street

 "And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter." - Isaiah 59:14

The prophet Isaiah lamented over the condition of Jerusalem that it was about to fall into destruction. The reason ? - because they did not love and honor the truth any longer. In fact if someone tried to declare the truth, they made themselves a prey and a target for persecution. The United States of America finds itself in a similar condition right now.

Isaiah revealed that God turned His face from them because "your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with sins; and your lips speak lawlessness, and your tongue plots wrongdoing." (59:3). A government that allows its most innocent to be slaughtered by abortion and goes even further to allow unborn embryos to be harvested for medical research certainly has blood on its hands! They are little better than the Nazi's of WWII. Lying has become such a norm in Washington DC that it is not shocking anymore. Plotting to take away individual wealth for the 'good of the state' is certainly 'wrongdoing'! And it is certainly un-American. Opening the moral doors to homosexuality is certainly classified as sin by God. Representative Barney Frank calls those who are upset about this 'homophobes' but, I say those who want to legalize homosexuality are anti-God and those who vote in such people have an anti-Christ spirit! When some of their schemes are discovered, they act shocked and horrified that such a thing could happen, all the while knowing they were responsible for them happening. A case in point is the AIG bonus payout to top executives. While members of the Congress and Administration acted shocked and demanded reprimands be given, they are the very one who approved those bonuses being given! Of course, nothing was said about the hundreds of thousands of dollars AIG gave to those same Congressmen and the President. Perhaps those should all be paid back as well?

These things are just the tip of the iceberg but when truth stops being the standard that a country is held accountable to, it soon falls. The problem is not just the government either - it is also the people that voted in the government. The legal system in our country has become like a millstone around our neck - why? Because a man's word is no longer his bond. Families are being destroyed in America because neither husband or wife know how to keep their word - both to themselves and in most cases to God as well. Don't most couples swear to love and honor each other in sickness and health until death do us part? Every divorce is a testimony to all, including God, that they are liars. We have moved away from the Biblical standard that says a righteous man is "one who swears to his own hurt, and changeth not." (Psalm 15:4). In other words, if you give your word, you keep it, even if it is costly to you! If this standard was honored, half the litigation cases would be eliminated.

Truth is no longer the standard in our nations public schools. Text books are being changed according to a 'politically correct' standard whether or not it happens to be truthful. Evolution is taught as if it is absolute fact, even though it is at best an unproven theory. Science is the unfettered search for truth, but the evolution model impedes and outlaws that search. Family is no longer looked upon as the foundation of every child but, instead the state is now the overseer of each child. The state can prosecute parents for not allowing their children to pierce their bodies but expects those same parents to allow abortions.

Jesus declared, "I am the way, the truth, and the life." When He is removed from a nation's public life, truth is the logical casualty and not too long after, its life goes as well.
