Separation of Church and State, Suicide in a Time-Release Capsule

Some say America is not found in Scripture, but, the Apostle Paul wrote a scathing indictment against America some 2000 years ago. It is found in Romans 1:18-32. The verse that highlights what is written is "since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, He gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done." (Romans 1:28).

If you read through the list of degradation, you find suppressing the truth about creation (which we have done in public schools), unthankfulness for the blessings of God (claiming to have got them by our own abilities), claiming wisdom they became fools (because the beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord; while Americans were once the most literate in all the world now we are among the illiterate of the world and our students score at the bottom in testing of Industrialized nations), exchanging the glory of the immortal God for images of mortal man, birds, animal, and reptiles (humanism and environmentalism), sexual impurity (fornication, lust, and adultery - TV glorifies it), exchanging natural relations for unnatural ones (homosexuality, lesbianism, pedophilia and bestiality), full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice (anyone looked at Fox News lately?), family destruction (divorce over a 50% rate).

How did a nation that was founded on the principles of Christianity and the righteous teaching of the Word of God come to this state of affairs? The answer is simple; Christians went to sleep! Every generation must embrace the teaching of Christ for itself. It cannot long remain where it is on its father's faith alone. The Nation of Israel is a powerful object lesson of this principal. Within one generation of Joshua and the elders who came out of the wilderness, the Nation had fallen away from God and began to suffer the consequences. A sleeping Church allowed the doctrine of the Separation of Church and State to creep into the national fabric. All is downhill from there.

Satan knows that a Christian foundation allows the building of a prosperous society and he knows how to attack it. First, separate its government from the righteous principles of God. Outlaw the Ten Commandments from public display. Outlaw public prayer. Claim plurality as the justification of this. Now God's laws contain within them protection for the 'stranger', but they don't allow the tyranny of the 'stranger' over God's people. The Separation of Church and State is like a suicide time capsule, because it results in a slow, but inevitable death.

Next, his attack is directed at the next generation. Kill them where possible with abortion, drugs, etc. and take control of the schools erasing the connection between life and God. Thomas Dewey was his instrument and he introduced a new belief system, it was called humanism. Humanism is the religion where man replaces God. Under the teachings of Humanism, a nation becomes secular.

Next, Satan deludes men into thinking they can function from a secular base rather than from a Christian base. Secular government becomes a tyrant, making the citizens its servants rather than government being a servant of the people. Government is seen as owning everything and the people have only what government allows them to have. Secular capitalism becomes a vehicle of greed operating on the fuel of envy, deceit, rather than the vehicle of blessing that God intended. Under God, children are seen as the heritage of the Lord, a reward from Him (Psalm 127:3-5). Under secularism, they are seen as an inconvenience or as Barrack Obama recently stated, "a punishment". As Stephen Mansfield wrote in The Faith of the American Soldier, the American soldier cannot long fight evil unless they have a Warrior's Code founded on Christian principles. With purely secular morals, they degrade into soldiers saying things like "its a lot of fun to shoot them", speaking of Afghanistani and Iraqi combatants. Thankfully, our young soldiers have mostly risen above this secular philosophy in spite of the government who sends them to war.

Psalm 11:3 asks the question, "When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?" The answer is found in Revelation 22:11, "Let him who does wrong continue to do wrong; let him who is vile continue to be vile; let him who does right continue to do right; and let him who is holy continue to be holy." The sense of the word 'continue' is 'keep on being more'. In other words, Jesus is saying, "You don't have long, so strive to be more right, strive to be more holy." As we see our nation falling away into darkness, we should shine even brighter.

As Isaiah cried so long ago, "Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and His glory appears over you." - Isaiah 60:1

As Scripture admonishes, "Be prepared in season and out." (2 Timothy 4:2). We are the 'salt and the light' God has placed in America, so let us have an effect! Let us be the 'watchmen on the walls' beseeching heaven and rebuking the devil for our country. Let us be the witnesses that Jesus Christ alone is the hope of America. Let us NOT swallow the suicide capsule of Separation of Church and State.
