"Speak to the children of Israel, and
say to them: "The feasts of the Lord, which you shall proclaim to be holy
convocations, these are My feasts." - Leviticus 23:1-2 |
The Feasts of the
LORD were given to Israel in Leviticus 23. Many people today look at them as
mere cultural observances but they are much more than that. They are the
testimony of God's faithful working on behalf of mankind and they are
prophetic reminders of God's promises to us. They all focus on one person,
the Messiah. The foundational feast is Passover and all the others develop
out of it.
There are many wonderful details in these feasts that magnify the works
of the Lord. While they were given to Israel, God calls them His feasts and
they belong to everyone who is His. They are testimonies of His faithfulness
and while they are celebrated at set times, they portray God's faithful work
all year long, every year. They are well worth the time to learn about. |
The four Spring feasts have
all been fulfilled exactly by Jesus. His blood stained the cross as the
Passover Lamb's blood stained the lentil and doorposts in Egypt. There was
no corruption found in Him as He lay in the grave. Three days later, He was
the First fruits offering to God. On Pentecost, He sent the Holy Spirit to
inaugurate the New Covenant.
The three Fall feasts will also be fulfilled exactly by Jesus when He
returns to rescue the righteous and judge the wicked. At that time all
Israel will suddenly realize who He is and turn to Him in repentance. He
will then dwell with His people.
