ELECTION 2008

It seems the Democrats and the Republicans have finally picked their nominees for President. The choices give a clear picture of where Americans are in their spiritual relationship with the God of the Bible.

Each candidate has their good and bad points, but neither of them exemplify the motto that was given to King David of Bible fame - that he was a man after God's heart. One gives a 'weak-kneed' acknowledgement of Jesus as Lord and the other gives evidence of outright heresy, saying their are other ways to God than through Jesus Christ when Jesus said, "I am the way .... no man comes to the Father but by Me." (John 14:6).

Neither of them are bold enough to declare outright what the Bible declares about homosexuality - that it is an abomination to God ( Leviticus 18:22; 1 Cor 6:9, 10).  But Obama outright endorses the practice. He is willing to sell his soul for the sake of a few votes and it is surprising how many so-called Christians support him.

To many, if you question Obama's stands on abortion, salvation, or homosexuality, this is equated with being racially discriminatory. Even the well known pastor, T. D. Jakes praises Obama's nomination because he is black, and this somehow is a sign of America's health. Instead, he should be weeping over the sins of America and that those who espouse them could be nominated for the highest office in the land!

Another major concern is the candidates stand on the nation of Israel. McCain is unclear on the issue, refusing to meet with American Jewish leaders. This may not be so damming as much of the time they themselves are against Israel, endorsing the 'land for peace' formula, which God is clearly against (Joel 3:2, Zechariah 12:3). But. Obama  displays his true character by declaring to the Jews that Jerusalem will always be Jewish and undivided and then, when the Arabs object in anger, watering down his statement to mean something less. He clearly is willing to say whatever pleases the audience he is speaking to.

The question of the hour is, "Who will American Christians choose?" Will it be McCain, who has shown disrespect for those who dare to believe what the Bible declares to be truth, even if it goes against popular opinion? Or will it be Obama, who by his own statements and writings has shown that he does not even understand what God declares to be truth, let alone be willing to stand for it against popular opinion. Will it be a "white vs black" race, or will it be a "world vs God" race?

Yes, we have been given the right to vote for our leaders, but, we should all remember there is a day coming when we all stand before a righteous and holy Judge and give an account of how we voted. No matter what anyone else did, we will be accountable for what we did ourselves. That outcome of that trial will be much more serious than electing a president. Who can tell you how to vote? Not the Democratic or Republican money-machines but only the God of the Bible.
